Asmongold: Several Rules Must Be Followed for Pay-to-Win Games to be Acceptable

Twitch Streamer Asmongold Supports Pay-to-Win Games without In-Game Currencies and Gambling

Twitch star Asmongold has expressed his opinion on pay-to-win games, stating that he doesn’t have an issue with them as long as they don’t incorporate in-game currencies and gambling or loot box systems.

Asmongold’s viewpoint goes against popular opinion. However, he argues that there is a significant distinction between paying to win and paying for a chance to win.

No Loot Boxes or Gambling in Pay-to-Win Games, Says Asmongold

During a stream on Aug. 13, Asmongold stated, “I think games should be able to be pay-to-win. I think you should be able to make a game, and if you want your game to be pay-to-win, that’s totally fine.” The caveat, according to Asmongold, is that players need to be fully aware of what they are signing up for in pay-to-win games—meaning “no loot boxes, no gambling, no opening something that has a chance to have something else.”

In his view, instead of leaving outcomes to chance, players should have the option to purchase “specific” items with cash and without any additional variables. He also believes that in-game currencies should be considered illegal.

Tackling In-Game Currencies and Deception

Asmongold claims that companies deliberately include in-game currencies to deceive players, making them believe that they are not spending as much money as they actually are. He argues that this practice should not be allowed.

To address this issue, Asmongold plans to have a round table meeting with U.S Senator Ted Cruz to discuss the possibility of making in-game currencies illegal. He believes that this action would make an impact on the gaming industry. However, no date or time for the meeting has been confirmed.

Potential Industry Changes and xQc’s Perspective

Games featuring elements such as gambling and loot boxes have already been banned in Belgium and The Netherlands. If the United States follows suit, it could have significant implications for the industry. However, at present, it remains uncertain.

Felix “xQc” Lengyel shares Asmongold’s concerns, suggesting that Twitch would be hesitant to ban gambling, as doing so would require restricting streams that involve gaming as well.
