Asmongold criticizes Amazon’s new MMO New World for its microtransaction plans.

Popular Streamer Criticizes Plans for Microtransactions in New World MMO

Well-known World of Warcraft streamer Asmongold recently expressed his frustration after learning that Amazon was considering the addition of “pay for convenience” options in their upcoming MMO, New World. In a tweet, he shared his thoughts and hopes that this news would spark a positive change before the game’s release.

“Pay for convenience creates a profit incentive to make the game inconvenient,” Asmongold explained, highlighting his concerns about microtransactions in MMOs. He believes that this practice encourages developers to create problems in the game that can then be sold as solutions.

In the case of New World, Asmongold finds it particularly troubling that the game hasn’t even been released yet and they are already considering pay-for-convenience options. He questions why they can’t simply make the game convenient from the start.

Instead of offering players a quick route to level up through microtransactions, Asmongold suggests making the leveling process less time-consuming and more enjoyable for everyone. He also mentions that earlier this year, rested XP was nerfed, and there are now discussions about selling it as an in-game purchase, which he finds disingenuous.

Asmongold argues that allowing companies to implement microtransactions from the game’s launch sends a message that consumer-unfriendly practices can be profitable. While he acknowledges that adding these features later on might make some sense, doing so at the very beginning of New World’s journey is where he takes issue.

The streamer played the game during its alpha stage and saw its potential. However, he fears that the planned introduction of boosts from launch could tarnish the game’s opportunity for success. He emphasizes that the MMO community is still eagerly waiting for a truly worthy game, and if New World doesn’t meet their expectations, they will continue to search for the next thrilling experience.

As of now, Asmongold has decided not to play or promote New World. He believes that doing so would be a disservice to the MMO community that has been neglected for far too long.
