Asmongold Gives Insight on the Future of Amazon’s New World
Famous Twitch streamer and MMO veteran Asmongold shared his thoughts on the future of Amazon’s game New World, stating that despite the popularity of another MMO, Lost Ark, New World still has potential.
In the past year, Amazon Games Studio has shown a keen interest in MMOs by releasing New World and bringing Lost Ark to the West. Both games initially gained a large number of active players, but Lost Ark has surpassed New World in almost every aspect, while the player base for Amazon’s first MMO continues to decline.
Asmongold has actively played both MMOs instead of his usual World of Warcraft streams, dedicating hundreds of hours to both games on his broadcasts. Although he has leaned towards Lost Ark, he still believes in the potential of New World and thinks the game can recover from its current decline.
“Lost Ark has been Amazon Games’ first major success,” Asmongold said. “Over time, New World’s experience will improve.” He compared New World to Guild Wars 2, explaining that because the game doesn’t require a subscription, players will only return occasionally when new content is released.
While Asmongold remains optimistic about the game’s potential for improvement, he is skeptical that New World will ever reach the same level of popularity it had at launch. “Will it ever reach 800,000 concurrent players again?” he questioned. “I don’t know, probably not. I wouldn’t bet on it. However, I do believe it will get better over time.”
While New World is currently facing a decline in its player base, it is far from dead. Competitors will continue to emerge, with World of Warcraft gearing up to announce its next expansion and Lost Ark adding new content updates.
