AGDQ Achieves Unprecedented Event Record by Raising $3.1 Million for Charity

Awesome Games Done Quick Breaks Fundraising Records for the Prevent Cancer Foundation

Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) has set a new record for the event by raising $3,132,422 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. This surpasses the previous record of $3,039,596 set by Summer Games Done Quick 2019. The donations continued to pour in during the final speedrun of the event, Super Metroid Impossible, as the Twitch chat rallied to push the total even higher.

The first million dollar milestone was reached during the Destiny 2 Last Wish run, four days into the speedrunning marathon. This set the stream on track to hit $2 million by the end of the week. However, donations slowed down in the following days.

The final 12 hours of the event saw a surge in donations as viewers tried to reach special incentives to extend the event with additional runs. One of the most anticipated streams, Untitled Goose Game, garnered a significant number of donations.

It was later revealed that the final push to $2 million was made possible by a $10,000 donation from the developer of Untitled Goose Game, House House.

Apart from House House’s contribution, the AGDQ team also received significant donations from sponsors, bits, subscriptions, and other revenue sources throughout the week. This totaled $356,306, which, when added to the existing donations of $2.5 million, brought the total raised to $3 million.

During the final Super Metroid run, AGDQ 2020 became only the second GDQ event to surpass the $3 million mark and set a new fundraising record.
