Admins on r/Place censor XQc’s artwork

The Battle of r/Place: xQc Runs Into Trouble with Subreddit Admins

The r/Place subreddit has become a sensation across the internet in recent days, particularly on Twitch. Twitch streamers from various corners of the website have joined forces with their viewers to create pixel art collaboratively. However, for one of Twitch’s most popular streamers, it turned into a tug-of-war with the subreddit’s admins.

A Blast from the Past: The Return of r/Place

Originally an experiment hosted by Reddit on April Fools’ Day in 2017, the r/Place event has made a comeback after five years, attracting a massive surge in popularity. One of the contributing factors to its success is the engagement of Twitch streamers who broadcast the experiment as it unfolds. Recently, xQc took part in the r/Place event during a stream, hoping to create artwork with his loyal viewers. However, he faced some challenges with the subreddit’s admins.

A Clash of Artistic Visions

During the stream, fellow streamer Mizkif pointed out, “They censored it, wait they censored it.” The original artwork, an image of 2B’s buttocks from Nier: Automata, was marred by a massive black rectangle placed on top of it by one or more of the r/Place admins.

Initially, xQc thought the admins might be “helping” by covering the artwork. However, his optimism quickly faded when they covered it a second time within five minutes. Frustrated, the 26-year-old streamer questioned, “So is this how we manipulate the fun game? We put something that is barely anything lewd onto a big canvas and we just black it out.”

Consequences and a Record-Breaking Stream

Viewers who attempted to recreate the artwork were banned from the subreddit for 15 years, preventing them from participating in the experiment for the next three cycles. Despite this setback, or perhaps because of it, xQc managed to break his previous viewership record with 233,000 concurrent viewers during his latest r/Place Twitch stream.
