World Pool Horse Racing Season Closes with Record-Breaking Turnover
World Pool, the largest global horse racing pools powered by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, has ended its season with a remarkable 24% increase in turnover, reaching a total of HK$7.4 billion.
A Record-Breaking Year for World Pool
The 2023 World Pool season, which included 222 races across eight countries, has surpassed all expectations. This is a significant improvement from the 154 races held in 2022.
New Territories for World Pool
World Pool expanded its reach this year by including Germany, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, and Australia for the first time. Additionally, more races were added from the UK and Ireland. Notably, the inclusion of Cox Plate Day in Australia saw the G1 Cox Plate race generating an impressive HK$60 million in bets, ranking it among World Pool’s top five races with the highest turnovers.
Record-Breaking Races and Growth
The G1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot set a new single race turnover record at HK$66.2 million, surpassing the 2022 Derby at Epsom, which amassed HK$66.1 million. King George Day at Ascot also experienced significant growth, with a record turnover of HK$287 million, a 13% increase compared to the previous year. Furthermore, Dubai World Cup night saw a substantial jump in turnover, reaching HK$315 million.
Michael Fitzsimons, Executive Director of Wagering Products at the HKJC, expressed his delight in World Pool’s performance in 2023. He credited the success to the collaboration and dedication of their partners worldwide, and sees this as just the beginning for World Pool’s growth.
