To realize this vision, key stakeholders are currently attending the SiGMA tradeshow in Malta. They are engaging with global gaming operators and gathering valuable industry feedback that will shape the definition of iGaming policies in Timor-Leste. These discussions will help position the country as a globally recognized and iGaming-friendly licensing jurisdiction.

Panel Discussion with Timor-Leste’s Ambassador and Industry Experts

During the Malta Experts Insight summit, Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Indonesia, HE Filomeno Alexio, shared the stage with industry experts Antonio Sampaio, Richard Leather, and Patrice Rodrigue. Together, they addressed questions and provided insights about Timor-Leste’s new jurisdiction and its potential in the iGaming industry. The summit was preceded by a video message from Timor-Leste’s President and Nobel Laureate Jose Ramos-Horta, highlighting the unique position of the country in Asia.

Timor-Leste’s Potential and Emerging Opportunities

With two-thirds of its population under the age of 30, Timor-Leste presents immense opportunities for the establishment of call centers, data centers, and the development of a luxury resort and casino. This burgeoning sector has the potential to drive economic growth and create new jobs in the country.

Virtual Gaming Association of Timor-Leste: Championing Best Practices and Business-Friendly Regulation

The Virtual Gaming Association of Timor-Leste acts as the trade association for the iGaming industry in the country. Currently, it is seeking consultation from industry players to develop best practices for iGaming regulation in Timor-Leste. This includes implementing player protection measures, defining technological requirements for operators, and establishing a commercial framework that positions Timor-Leste as one of the most business-friendly jurisdictions globally for the iGaming industry.
