PAGCOR Presents New Emergency Facility in Vulnerable Town

Fifth PAGCOR Multi-Purpose Evacuation Center Inaugurated in Quezon Province

The town of Catanauan in Quezon province, Philippines, recently celebrated the inauguration of a new evacuation facility to strengthen the government’s disaster preparedness efforts. The two-story multi-purpose building, worth Php50 million, was inaugurated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). This marks the fifth PAGCOR facility constructed in Quezon province to provide shelter during severe storms that often hit the area.

Enhancing Safety and Preparedness

The inauguration of the evacuation center is a significant step toward ensuring the safety of residents during natural disasters. Catanauan Mayor Atty. Ramon Orfanel expressed gratitude to PAGCOR for the state-of-the-art building. He highlighted the importance of having comfortable facilities for vulnerable individuals affected by calamities and emphasized the center’s role in enhancing emergency preparedness.

A Versatile Facility for the Community

Aside from its primary purpose as an evacuation site, the multi-purpose center also serves as a venue for special activities and an extension office of the Catanauan LGU. This brings government services closer to the people of Barangay Madulao and neighboring villages, providing numerous benefits to the community.

Addressing Past Challenges

Barangay Captain Ricardo Agaton, present during the inauguration, expressed gratitude for their village being chosen as the site for the multi-purpose evacuation center. He recalled the devastating impact of Typhoon Glenda in 2014, which necessitated the evacuation of thousands of families from the area. With the new facility in place, residents now have a nearby, sturdy, and comfortable shelter during times of calamity.

To date, PAGCOR has completed 37 evacuation facilities nationwide, with 36 additional centers still under construction.
