Eastern European Gaming Summit Holds Webinar on Balkan Gaming Landscape

On February 26th, the Eastern European Gaming Summit (EEGS) hosted a free webinar on the topic of “Balkan Gaming Landscape: a Maze or Amaze? Deep dive into the markets.” The webinar brought together prominent experts and professionals in the gaming and entertainment industry to discuss the latest trends, developments, and challenges in the Balkan markets.

The webinar was moderated by Rossi McKee, Co-founder of Telematic Interactive Bulgaria and Honorary Chairman of the Association of the gaming industry in Bulgaria (AGIB). Representatives from several Balkan countries, including Angel Iribozov, Chairman of AGIB, Dan Iliovici, Vice-president of ROMBET Romania, Ovidiu Iosif, Executive Director of “Joc Responsabil” Association in Romania, Zoran Puhac from Serbia, Secretary General of the European Organization for Gaming Law (EOGL), and Vasko Ilijevski, President of Macedonian Sports Betting Association, provided input and comments during the discussions.

Insights into Balkan Markets

Throughout the webinar, the speakers shared insights into the current market conditions in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, North Macedonia, and Montenegro. They discussed important topics such as gambling advertising, implementation of responsible gaming policies, and the impact of new laws and regulations on the industry.

In response to the moderator’s question about the key challenges faced by gaming professionals in the Balkans, Zoran Puhac mentioned that elections posed a significant challenge as politicians often try to improve their image by proposing new regulations. Angel Iribozov added that gambling has always been affected by politicians’ tax ambitions.

The Total Ban on Gambling Advertising

The panel of experts also addressed questions from the audience about the total ban on gambling advertising and the challenges faced by companies directly involved in the sector. Dan Iliovici expressed his skepticism about the effectiveness of the ban, citing the example of Italy where the impact of a similar ban hasn’t been thoroughly researched.

Follow-up Session and Certificates of Attendance

At the end of the webinar, each participant received a Certificate of Attendance as recognition for their commitment to professional development. The topic generated significant interest among the audience, leading the speakers to promise a follow-up session to further discuss and delve into the upcoming changes in the industry.
