Treasures of Ruin: A Guide to Utilizing Four of Scarlet and Violet’s Most Powerful Pokémon

The Charlotte Regionals just wrapped up, leading us into the next exciting phase of Pokémon battles – Regulation C. Starting April 1, this new format brings the legendary Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet into play. These are known as the Treasures of Ruin and include Chien-Pao, Chi-Yu, Wo-Chien, and Ting-Lu. These Pokémon are not only strong but also have special abilities that could change the game. However, they can be tricky to master.

Mastering the Treasures of Ruin

Luckily, you don’t need to stress about figuring out how to best use these legends in battles. We’re here to guide you!

Chien-Pao: The Offensive Powerhouse

First up is Chien-Pao, a key player in aggressive teams. With a high Attack stat and the Sword of Ruin ability, it can lower opponents’ Defense by 25%. This makes Chien-Pao and its teammates formidable. To make Chien-Pao even more effective, partner it up with strong Physical Attackers.

For Chien-Pao, we suggest using a Focus Sash to survive big hits, and maxing out its Attack and Speed stats.

In battles, Chien-Pao shines with moves like Ice Spinner and Sacred Sword. Ice Spinner deals ice damage and clears terrains, while Sacred Sword offers great coverage. Sucker Punch gives Chien-Pao a quick punch, and Protect shields it from attacks. Tera Ghost type makes Chien-Pao a bigger threat by dodging common moves.

Chi-Yu: The Speacial Attacker

Chi-Yu takes the stage with high Special Attack. Its ability, Beads of Ruin, works like Chien-Pao’s but for special moves. This means it boosts damage done by Chi-Yu and its allies.

For Chi-Yu, Choice Scarf is a great item, making it even faster. Its only ability is Beads of Ruin.

To max out Chi-Yu’s potential, invest in Speed and Special Attack stats. Use moves like Overheat, Heat Wave, Dark Pulse, and Snarl to dish out damage and support your team. Tera Type Grass or Fire can boost Chi-Yu’s survival or power.

Wo-Chien: The Tank

Wo-Chien might have been underrated at first, but its durable and disruptive nature quickly became apparent. Its ability, Tablets of Ruin, decreases the Attack stat of opponents, making Wo-Chien a tough wall.

Equip Wo-Chien with Leftovers for steady healing. Its best moves are Foul Play or Ruination, Leech Seed, Pollen Puff, and Protect. For Tera Types, Fire, Water, or Poison each offer strategic advantages.

Ting-Lu: The Surprising Threat

Ting-Lu, although less offensive at first glance, quickly gained respect for its blend of offense and support. With the Vessel of Ruin ability, it can slash the Special Attack of all foes by 25%.

An Assault Vest adds to Ting-Lu’s toughness, making it hard to knock out. An EV spread focusing on HP, Attack, and Special Defense, combined with an Adamant nature, maximizes both its durability and hitting power.

Ting-Lu’s move set includes Stomping Tantrum, Payback, Heavy Slam, and the risky Fissure. These moves give Ting-Lu the ability to hit hard, especially after Fissure’s gamble. Steel or Poison as a Tera Type can give Ting-Lu an edge in defense.

There you have it – a starter guide to mastering the Treasures of Ruin. With these tips, you’re ready to dive into Regulation C and dominate the competition.
