Choose Dark types, and get tasks and rewards based on them. They’ll also swarm to your Incense. Pick Fire types, and you’ll see more of them with your Incense and get themed rewards.
No matter what, big rewards at the end of each research page stay the same. Only the smaller task-specific rewards change. It mainly affects a few Pokémon encounters.
Another twist? Collection Challenges. They also depend on your path. Pick one type, and you lock out the other’s challenge.
Some Pokémon, like evolving Torracat into Incineroar, stay the same for both challenges. So, don’t sweat your choice too much. But it will make your event experience a bit different.
I’m team Fire-type Pokémon. It’s strange Turtonator isn’t in the Collection Challenge, despite being a new wild spawn. But, extra Litten encounters from Incense are enough reason for me.
