Release Timeline for New Pokémon Games May Extend for a Justifiable Reason

The Pokémon Company’s COO, Takato Utsunomiya, mentioned they’re talking a lot about how to keep things moving fast without losing quality. In a chat with Comicbook, he shared that they’re all about bringing in new stuff for players without dropping the ball on quality.

Constant New Releases

Utsunomiya told the media that Pokémon has always been about regular, timely releases. They’ve worked hard to give their fans new things to enjoy. But, it’s becoming hard to keep up the pace while also making sure everything is top-notch.

Adding to the discussion, he noted that making high-quality games takes time. Now, Pokémon might be looking at getting more people on board or working with outside teams. This could help them keep dropping cool games without rushing.

Recent Pokémon Games

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet hit the shelves in November 2022, not long after Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. And between those, Pokémon Legends: Arceus came out in January 2022. For more than 25 years, we’ve been getting new Pokémon games almost yearly, with a fresh batch of Pokémon every three years since 1996. This trend might change in the coming years.

The quality of these games often gets called out. For example, Scarlet and Violet faced a lot of bugs and other problems at launch. The team had to focus on fixing these issues for months instead of adding new, fun elements.

Looking Forward

Good news for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet fans, though. More content is coming with the DLC “The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero,” expected in late 2023.

Quality vs. Quantity

Pokémon’s balance between keeping things fresh and ensuring quality is tricky. As they move forward, Utsunomiya’s insights hint at a possible shift in how they roll out new games. It’s all about keeping fans happy without rushing things and compromising on the game experience. Keep an eye out for what they do next. It could mark a new chapter for Pokémon releases.
