The Pokémon TCG is mixing old and new in some exciting upcoming sets. They’re introducing a fresh card type for several new Paradox Pokémon. Plus, they hinted at an old mechanic making a comeback in 2024.
Up till now, we’ve seen a couple of Paradox Pokémon like Iron Treads and Great Tusk. But, The Pokémon Company plans to change things up. They will label future releases as Ancient or Future based on their time period and game version.
These Ancient and Future tags will appear on Paradox Pokémon. It doesn’t matter if they are a normal Basic card or a Pokémon ex. Some early cards shown, like Iron Valiant ex, Scream Tail, and Iron Moth, carry the label on the top right corner. They also come with unique backgrounds.
The full trailer revealed some alternate art and Illustration Rare variants for cards like Iron Moth. This set is shaping up to be a fan favorite even before revealing the full lineup of cards and abilities. According to PokéBeach, these cards will launch in the Ancient Roar Future Flash Japanese sets on Oct. 27. The Paradox Rift TCG set follows on Nov. 3.
Return of Ace Spec Cards
Ace Spec cards are also coming back in 2024. These strong Item cards had drawbacks, making them a risky play compared to standard Trainer cards. They haven’t been seen since the Pokémon TCG: Black & White Plasma Blast in 2013. This new release plans to expand on them greatly.
