Pokemon Sword and Shield to Continue Hosting Ranked and VGC Competitions, excluding Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, or Legends: Arceus

Ranked VGC Competitions Will Continue to Be Hosted for Pokémon Sword and Shield

Starting from April 1, 2022, The Pokémon Company International has confirmed that ranked Virtual Console (VGC) competitions will still be held for Pokémon Sword and Shield. This is fantastic news for all competitive Pokémon trainers out there.

What are VGC competitions?

VGC competitions are official tournaments organized by The Pokémon Company International. They provide an opportunity for trainers to showcase their battle strategies and skills in a structured and competitive environment. These competitions are conducted online and allow trainers from all over the world to participate.

Changes from Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have been the focal points for VGC competitions for quite some time. However, with the introduction of Pokémon Sword and Shield, there was speculation that VGC competitions for the former games would discontinue. Fortunately, this is not the case, and trainers will still have the opportunity to compete in ranked VGC events using Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Why is this significant?

This decision allows trainers to continue their journey with Pokémon Sword and Shield by participating in VGC competitions. It ensures that trainers who have invested time and effort into building teams and strategies for these games can still put their skills to the test. Moreover, it allows trainers to adapt to the shifting metagame and explore new strategies using the latest Pokémon titles.

Overall, the confirmation that ranked VGC competitions will continue to be hosted for Pokémon Sword and Shield brings excitement and opportunities for trainers to further their competitive ambitions. So, prepare your teams and get ready to battle it out in the Virtual Console!
