Pokémon Go’s Latest Scarlet and Violet Crossover Could Risk Players’ Save Data Loss

After Pokémon Day 2023, fans got excited to link Pokémon Go with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This cool feature lets you catch Gimmighoul in its Roaming Form. But, a serious glitch is spoiling this fun for some players.

Bug Hits Hard

Players started reporting on March 1 that linking games erased their saved data on the Nintendo Switch. The buzz about these troubles first spread on Reddit. Some even lost hundreds of hours of game progress, with no quick fix in sight.

A Player’s Nightmare

Reddit’s Matthewcbayer shared his bad luck. After sending a postcard in Pokémon Go to unlock Gimmighoul, he later couldn’t access his game. He tried everything to fix it. Yet, his 595-hour journey in Scarlet/Violet was gone, locked out from his main profile.

Not All Hope Lost

Still, Matthew found a workaround. By making a new profile on his Switch, he could play Scarlet/Violet again. But, his original save was tied to his main profile, now unreachable. This hints that the Pokémon Go feature may corrupt save data in some way.

As more players spoke up, it became clear this wasn’t an isolated incident. Lots of fans faced the same issue, but no one knows why yet. The fact that Scarlet and Violet don’t support cloud saves makes recovery impossible for those hit by this error.

Not many have faced this issue, yet the exact cause remains a mystery. Some think a recent game patch, not the Pokémon Go link, might be the culprit. A player even suggested that the new DLC could trigger the bug.

Be cautious using Pokémon Go with Scarlet or Violet for now. With no official word from Nintendo or The Pokémon Company, it’s better to wait for a fix to avoid risking your save data.

Despite it being a rare problem, the glitch has caused huge losses for some. Until we hear more, it’s wise to hold off on using these crossover features.
