Pokémon Go Players Confused as Unexpected Location Emerges as Top Spot for Gameplay

Pokémon Go is designed to be fun no matter where you are in the world. However, some spots are better than others for catching Pokémon. Surprisingly, Alcatraz, the famous former prison in San Francisco Bay, tops the list. This place is excellent for Gyms, PokéStops, Raids, and even Team Go Rocket.

Team Go Rocket on Alcatraz

It’s interesting that Team Go Rocket, a group of bad guys, is so active on an island known for holding criminals like Al Capone. A fan on Reddit joked, “All the former Team Rocket members stayed there and made their own country.”

Another fan said, “Imagine if the prison was still open. Anyone sneaking in a phone could level up fast.”

Alcatraz vs. Niantic’s HQ

Some fans compare Alcatraz to Niantic’s headquarters, which is also in San Francisco. “Alcatraz, which houses Niantic, is just miles away,” one fan mentioned. Comparing Niantic to Team Go Rocket isn’t new. Many players are upset over recent decisions by Niantic, especially about Remote Raid Passes being pricier and having new limits.

This has led to a drop in raid participation. In fact, some fans have stopped playing Pokémon Go altogether. A fan said, “At least in prison, there’d be people to raid with.”

Alcatraz’s Popularity

Another player was baffled, “Why does Alcatraz have more PokéStops than my city of 80,000?” As a famous tourist spot, Alcatraz seems to get special treatment. This can be annoying for players in less popular locations.

Despite the excitement around Team Go Rocket and the high activity in Alcatraz, it doesn’t help players in other areas much.

So, while it’s cool that a historic prison can be a hotspot for Pokémon Go, not everyone benefits from it.
