Pokémon Go Introduces Highly Anticipated Pokémon and Shiny Variant for World Championships Event

August is a huge month for Pokémon Go players with the game adding some famous creatures. Get ready for a big end-of-month celebration.

New Arrivals for the World Championships

To mark the 2023 Pokémon World Championships, Pokémon Go will offer lots of in-game bonuses. These run from Aug. 11 at 10 am to Aug. 15 at 8 pm local time. Players can look forward to the first appearance of Passimian and Shiny Scraggy. There’s also a new costumed Pikachu wearing a special shirt to celebrate the event.

In Yokohama, Japan, trainers will battle to become the Pokémon GO World Champion from Aug. 11 to 15, 2023. The game celebrates this worldwide, bringing special in-game activities.

More Pokémon in the Wild and Raids

During the celebration, you’ll see more of certain Pokémon. These include strong Go Battle League fighters like Machop and Onix. Pokémon like Chinchou, Wooper, and more will pop up more often. For Raids, look out for costumed Pikachu and unique types like Alolan Sandshrew. Five-star Raids feature Cresselia, and Mega Raids have Mega Gyarados.

Completing Field Research offers chances to meet various costumed and special Pokémon. Timed Research brings even more rewards, like a rare Elite Fast TM and another chance at a costumed Pikachu.

Learn Rare Moves

Some Pokémon will get to learn special moves during this event. If you evolve Pokémon like Alolan Sandslash or Machamp, they can learn moves usually locked behind Elite TMs. After the event, these moves return to being Elite TM exclusives.

Looking Forward

All these Pokémon encounters and bonuses are part of the celebration running from Aug. 11 to 15. Note, there might be a break on Aug. 13 for the Froakie Community Day. Afterward, the game moves towards the next big event, Pokémon Go Fest: Global.

The 2023 Pokémon World Championships will happen in Yokohama, Japan from Aug. 11 to 13. The event brings together top players globally across various Pokémon games, competing to be the champion.
