Niantic Responds to Significant Pokémon Go Special Research Bug That Results in Progress Loss

Pokémon Go Faces Challenges

Pokémon Go fans have been upset lately. They boycotted the game because of changes to raid mechanics. Small events also failed to excite many players. A big issue recently was the Special Research resetting progress for some, but Niantic has now fixed this.

The A Mystic Hero Event Issue

From April 13 to 17, the A Mystic Hero event took place. It was about helping Team Mystic’s leader, Blance, learn about Pokémon evolution. Players had different tasks to do. Yet, many found a problem with the event’s third Special Research page. It showed broken streak messages when they logged in recently.

Lost Progress Problem

To complete this stage, players had to make three Excellent Throws, earn five candies walking with their Buddy Pokémon, and evolve 10 Pokémon. But on April 16, many reported their progress was entirely gone.

Despite these setbacks, the rewards were not lost. Niantic decided to auto-complete this page for everyone affected. They apologized for the inconvenience on Twitter.

Looking Ahead With Caution

This move didn’t fix everything. Players were already unhappy with visual glitches and a lack of new content during the event. Now, this reset issue made things worse. Fans hope the upcoming Sustainability Week event doesn’t face similar problems.

Niantic skipped the problematic page and auto-completed it for players. They didn’t say why the issue happened. For many, this solution was the simplest way to move past the problem. Meanwhile, Pokémon Go players recently found out Niantic made another unpopular change without warning. These issues make players wary of future events.
