How to Play Pokémon Stadium Online with Friends on Nintendo Switch

For the first time in quite a while, Nintendo brings a Pokémon game to the Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) library. Now, you can play Pokémon Stadium on the Nintendo 64 part of NSO. This is the first time you can play it online on a console.

Playing Together

Originally released in 1999 in Japan and in 2000 elsewhere, Pokémon Stadium had no online features. Back then, games mostly had local multiplayer. The NSO service changes this. It lets you play as if you’re sitting right next to your friends.

If you have the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, you can play the game by yourself or with friends online, though in a limited way.

How to Play Online

Want to battle or play mini-games with friends online in Pokémon Stadium? You just need the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription.

Accessing the game and others on NSO comes with the subscription. Just download the NSO’s N64 app on your Switch. Open the app, click “Play Online,” and either join your friends or use a passcode for your own lobby.

You can start a game and wait for others to join. Once they do, you can dive into multiplayer modes together and have fun.

In a nutshell, Nintendo Switch Online now includes Pokémon Stadium, bringing classic battles and mini-games online for the first time. With the NSO + Expansion Pack, playing with friends is easy. Just download the app, pick “Play Online,” and you’re set. Whether battling out or competing in mini-games, Pokémon Stadium brings nostalgic fun into the digital era.
