How to Obtain Mew and Mewtwo in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

During the Aug. 8 Pokémon Presents event, fans found out that Mew and Mewtwo are finally coming to Scarlet and Violet. They’ll arrive through a special Tera Raid event.

Mew and Mewtwo Join the Fight

Mew and Mewtwo, two legendary names from the first generation of Pokémon, are making their way to the Paldea region in Scarlet and Violet. This is the first time players can team up with these iconic Pokémon in the Gen IX games.

Here’s what you need to know about getting Mew and Mewtwo in your game.

Grab Your Free Mew

From Aug. 8 to Sept. 18, you can get a free Mew. Just use the code “GETY0URMEW” in the Mystery Gift feature to claim it.

To do this, go to the Mystery Gift menu in the Poké Portal, connect online, and enter the code. Remember, “Y0UR” uses a zero, not an “O.” Get this right, and Mew will join your team, ready for adventure in Paldea. This Mew can be a big help in the upcoming Mewtwo Tera Raid event in September.

Customize Your Mew

Your free Mew can come with different Tera Types, Natures, and moves. Right after you get it, check its stats. You can change its Tera Type with Tera Shards, its Nature with mints, and teach it new moves with TMs. This way, you can make your Mew fit your style.

If you love attacking, go for a Mew with a Psychic Tera Type and a Special Attack-boosting Nature. All Mew with Psychic Tera Type will know Psyshock during this event.

For a more supportive Mew, choose Natures that strengthen its Defense or Special Defense. Bold and Calm are good picks. These make your Mew tougher in battles.

Bringing your Mew to face Mewtwo? Choose the Dark Tera Type. This makes Mew immune to Mewtwo’s Psychic moves and allows it to hit back harder with Dark Pulse.

Mewtwo’s Arrival

Mewtwo steps into Scarlet and Violet through a seven-star Tera Raid event. This special Mewtwo comes with the Psychic Tera Type and a unique title, the Mightiest Mark. It’s both a tough challenge and a rare prize for your collection.

Before you can catch Mewtwo, you must defeat it in battle. With its Psychic Tera Type, consider using a Dark-type Pokémon against it. If you bring Mew, expect “something special” to happen, as hinted in the Pokémon Presents video. Leaks say Mew gets a stats boost early in the fight, making it a good choice against Mewtwo.

Watch out, though. Mewtwo might use Fighting-type moves to hit Dark types hard.

Don’t Miss the Mewtwo Tera Raid

The Mewtwo Tera Raid starts on Sept. 1 at 12:00 am UTC and ends on Sept. 17 at 11:59 pm UTC. Train your Mew now so you’re ready for the challenge.

There’s no word if these Mewtwo Tera Raids will return after this event. So, grab your chance to face and catch this legendary Pokémon.
