How to Obtain and Utilize Shadow Shards and Purified Gems in Pokémon Go

New Items in Pokémon Go

Pokémon Go rarely adds new items. But when it does, these items often introduce fresh features for players. Recently, along with Shadow Raids, the game introduced Shadow Shards. Players need these to succeed in the new Raid type. They work like the Rocket Radar. Collect enough, and you get a Purified Gem. This special item can calm down the boss Shadow Pokémon.

Shadow Raids and Team Go Rocket

Starting May 22, Pokémon Go added these new items. A massive Team Go Rocket event kicked off, bringing the first Shadow Raids. Experts call this an ‘evolution’ in game content. Here’s a guide on using Shadow Shards and Purified Gems. They boost your chances in Shadow Raids.

Earning Shadow Shards and Purified Gems

Beat Team Go Rocket members to collect Shadow Shards. The tougher the member, the more Shards you get. Grunts drop one, leaders three, and Giovanni four. Shadow Raids offer five, but they’re challenging. For Purified Gems, four Shadow Shards are needed. Professor Willow can turn them into a Gem for your inventory, ready for Raid use.

Using Your Gems in Raids

In a Shadow Raid, the boss gets stronger after several hits. It’ll turn purple, and “enraged” will show on its health bar. Hit the button on the lower left screen to use a Purified Gem. This counters the boss’s enhanced status. You can carry up to 10 Purified Gems. So, use them often. It makes Shadow Raids easier. Plus, you avoid hitting the cap.
