Complete Guide to Rock-Type Pokémon Vulnerabilities

Every Pokémon is special, but Rock types stand out with their strong attack and defense. Pokémon like Tyranitar and Garganacl excel against Fire, Flying, Ice, and Bug types. They can also handle hits from Normal, Poison, Fire, and Flying attacks well.

Rock-type Pokémon weaknesses

Rock types have five main weaknesses: Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Steel. Some of these weaknesses affect them more when they’re on defense, while others hit them hard on both fronts. Let’s dive into these weaknesses.

Water

Water Pokémon are everywhere, making Rock types vulnerable to their powerful Water attacks. Palafin, Iron Bundle, and Dondozo from Scarlet and Violet are strong Water types. They use moves like Wave Crash and Hydro Pump to deal big damage to Rock Pokémon. But, Rock attacks can still hit Water types without extra damage.

Grass

Grass types aren’t as common in battles but still threaten Rock types. Pokémon like Brute Bonnet or Lilligant use Spore or Sleep Powder, then attack with moves like Seed Bomb. These moves do a lot of damage to Rock types, who return the favor with neutral damage.

Fighting

Fighting types, known for their physical strength, can deal super-effective damage to Rock types. Pokémon such as Annihilape and Great Tusk use moves like Close Combat. Fighting types also take less damage from Rock attacks, making the matchup tough for Rock types.

Ground

Ground Pokémon, like Rock types, hit hard with physical attacks. Earthquake is a common and strong Ground move against Rock Pokémon. Some Rock types can dodge Ground attacks with abilities like Levitate or being Rock/Flying type. But, most Rock types struggle against Ground moves. Ground also resists Rock attacks.

Steel

Steel types are tough, resisting 11 attack types, including Rock. They can also deal more damage to Rock types. Gholdengo and Kingambit are strong Steel Pokémon often used in battles. However, Rock types can fight back with Earthquake, a good counter to Steel types.

To sum up, Rock types have unique strengths but face tough battles against Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Steel types. Winning these matchups requires smart strategies and knowing when to play to Rock types’ strengths.
