Mowzer’s Guide to Jungle Notes Patch 5.6

Jungle Changes: More XP for Junglers

Hey everyone! Mowzer here with some exciting news about changes in the jungle. This patch brings some updates specifically for the jungle and junglers. I won’t cover every change in the patch, but you can check out Riot’s official patch notes for patch 5.6 here.

Part 1) Jungle Changes

  • Levels 1-4: same
  • Levels 5-7: 3% more xp
  • Levels 8-10: 6% more xp
  • Levels 11-18: 10% more xp

Impact: This buff is great for everyone, especially junglers. It allows us to gain more xp after reaching level 4 and helps us keep up with laners. It’s not a huge change, but it’s a welcome bonus for clearing the jungle. Many junglers struggle to keep up with the rest of the team, so this should help narrow the level gap.

Part 2) Item Changes

  • Cost: reduced to 900 from 1000 (The cost of Athene’s and Mikael’s remain the same.)

Impact: This change reduces the cost of Chalice, which is a rare item for junglers. It allows for earlier purchase without a big impact on gameplay.

  • Mana regen: increased to 100% from 50%
  • Mana restored on kill/assist: increased to 30% from 15%

Impact: These buffs for Chalice allow for better mana replenishment and more spell casting. However, Chalice is rarely seen on junglers, so it may not have a significant impact in the jungle.

Part 3) Champion Changes

  • R – Massacre: (now) grants 20% of maximum blood well for each enemy hit.

Impact: This change improves damage potential in team fights for this champion by granting more blood well stacks, which are important for DPS and health regeneration.

  • Base movement speed (human form): reduced to 330 from 335
  • Base movement speed (spider form): increased to 355 from 345
  • E – Rappel (spider form): can now right click in air to descend on target and able to press E again.
  • E – cocoon (human form): missile speed increased 1600 from 1450

Impact: These changes mostly improve quality of life for this champion. The small movement speed adjustment and faster spider form enhance mobility, while the E abilities receive some improvements.

  • Passive (Shadow walk): Cooldown changed to 6/5/4/3 seconds (at levels 1/6/11/16) from 6 seconds.
  • W – dark frenzy: changed from passively granting stacking movement speed to spell hits now lowering dark frenzy’s cooldown by 1 second.

Impact: These changes allow for earlier use of Shadow Walk, better mana regeneration, and more frequent use of spell hits. Overall, they improve the champion’s playability in certain situations.

  • R – Paranoia: cooldown lowered to 150/125/100 (seconds) from 180/140/100

Impact: This decrease in cooldowns provides more opportunities to use the ability in the early to mid game. However, the cooldown remains the same at rank 3.

  • Q – powerball: cost lowered to 60/65/70/75/80 (mana) from 70/80/90/100/110

Impact: This reduction in mana costs allows for more frequent use of Q ability without running out of mana quickly. It’s a mild early rank buff, but mana decreases as it ranks up.

  • W – flail of the northern winds: damage reduced to 4/5.5/7/8.5/10% (target’s max hp) from 4/6/8/10/12%
  • R – glacial prison: slow reduced to 30% from 90%

Impact: These nerfs to Sion’s abilities decrease his percentage damage and the amount of slowing. However, he is still a strong pick in solo queue.

  • Q – decimating smash: damage reduced (to monsters) to 80% from 90%
  • E – roar of the slayer: damage reduced (pass through) to 30% from 50%

Impact: These changes slightly decrease jungle clearing speed for this champion. His laning damage and damage against champions remain unaffected, but clearing may be slightly slower.

  • W – despair: fixed a bug where the ability was not toggling off when Amumu ran out of mana.

Impact: This bug fix prevents unintentional damage that may have been caused by the ability not turning off when Amumu ran out of mana.

Predictions and Closing Statement

Overall, these changes bring some buffs and nerfs to the jungle and junglers. The buffs are great for diversifying the jungle champion pool, while the nerfs to Sion and Sejuani are impactful but not crippling. It’ll be interesting to see if Evelynn and Nocturne become more popular picks. Keep an eye out for more Nautilus too, as he is a strong tank with great crowd control. Best of luck!

TL;DR – Jungle camps now offer more XP post level 4 and some champions received minor buffs and nerfs. Good luck in your games!
