Zven from Cloud9 labels 2021 LCS Mid-Season Showdown final a ‘disappointing trial’ with ‘questionable fairness’

Cloud9 Dominates Team Liquid in LCS Mid-Season Showdown Finals

Cloud9 emerged victorious in a thrilling five-game series against Team Liquid during the 2021 LCS Mid-Season Showdown finals. However, despite the team’s success, one player expressed dissatisfaction with the venue.

In a post-match press conference, Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen shared his thoughts on the outdoor setting. He mentioned the challenges of playing with the sun shining in their eyes and occasional breezes, stating that the overall experience felt like a failed experiment.

A Hard-Fought Battle with Uncertain Outcomes

The series was incredibly close, and C9’s victory was thanks in part to Zven’s exceptional performance in game five as Tristana with five kills. The outcome could have easily favored Team Liquid instead.

Zven emphasized the impact of the environment on competitive integrity, expressing frustration with the glare on his screen, which made it difficult to see important timers and indicators, such as those for dragon and Baron spawns.

Adapting to Challenging Conditions

Instead of solely focusing on the matchup, the team found themselves preoccupied with staying warm. Zven mentioned the necessity of using hand warmers consistently in games four and five due to their cold hands.

Despite these challenging circumstances, Cloud9 secured their qualification for the Mid-Season Invitational, where they will represent North America. The tournament is set to take place in Reykjavík, Iceland from May 6 to 22.

A Hope for Indoor Venues in the Future

Zven expressed his desire for Riot to choose indoor venues in the future, highlighting the importance of optimal playing conditions for competitive integrity and player comfort.
