Alex “Xpecial” Chu, a former player for TSM, Team Liquid, and Golden Guardians, has officially joined Harrisburg University on a full-time basis to lead their varsity League of Legends team. After six months of remote work, Xpecial helped the team secure a third-place finish at the 2019 East Conference Playoffs.

Chad Smeltz, Harrisburg’s director of esports, expressed his excitement about having Xpecial on board and believes that his presence will greatly benefit the collegiate team. Smeltz sees Xpecial as one of the best players in the game and views this opportunity as a stepping stone for aspiring professional players.

“Coming from a professional background, Xpecial brings precision, experience, and discipline to our young and enthusiastic team,” said Smeltz. “Working with the team remotely has already proven effective, but having him here with us in person will definitely boost our chances of securing a championship title.”

According to the team’s jungler, Ryan “ShorterAce” Nget, having Xpecial on board full-time and in person is an incredible opportunity. He believes that Xpecial’s experience has already made a significant impact on the team’s progress and believes that being together in person for the upcoming year will take them even further.

Xpecial, who played at three World Championships with TSM, securing impressive placements, is no stranger to coaching. He previously led Golden Guardians during the 2018 LCS Summer Split. Now, he has the chance to guide a new generation of League talent, shaping the future of the game’s brightest stars.
