The play-in stage of the 2022 League of Legends World Championship has concluded. Four out of the five major region representatives have made it to the group stage at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The teams include Korea’s DRX, China’s Royal Never Give Up, Europe’s Fnatic, and North America’s Evil Geniuses. The group stage will commence on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 4pm CT.

One interesting aspect to watch in the tournament is the evolving meta. The meta has started to settle, but there is still room for off-meta picks from minor region teams. The group stage of the tournament follows a classic format. Four groups are formed, each consisting of four teams. No two teams from the same region or pool can be in the same group. Each team will play against the other three teams twice, once on blue side and once on red side. The group stage matches will take place over two weekends in New York City.

After the group stage, the top two teams from each group will enter a single-elimination, best-of-five knockout bracket. Group winners will face second-place teams, and teams from the same group will not be placed on the same side of the bracket.
