Worlds 2019 semifinals witness a striking 98% surge in concurrent viewers compared to last year’s.

League of Legends Worlds 2019 Sees Massive Increase in Viewership

Last weekend, the semifinals of the League of Legends Worlds 2019 tournament had a 98% increase in concurrent viewers compared to last year, according to Esports Charts.

G2 Esports from Europe and SK Telecom T1 from South Korea delivered an incredible series, which many called the real finals of the tournament. Ultimately, G2 emerged victorious.

The viewership numbers for the semifinals were impressive. The average concurrent viewers reached 1,857,247, a significant increase of over 900,000 compared to last year’s semifinals between Fnatic and Cloud9. The peak viewers also saw a remarkable 145% growth.

This year’s series between G2 and SKT was highly anticipated due to the dominance of both teams. G2 is considered the best Western squad, while SKT is hailed as the greatest team in League of Legends history. As the tournament took place in Europe, the home region of G2, the viewership numbers soared.

However, it remains to be seen if the finals between G2 and FunPlus Phoenix of China will attract the same level of viewership. Despite the matchup being less anticipated, European fans are expected to rally behind G2, their champions.

The Worlds finals between G2 and FunPlus Phoenix will take place on Sunday, November 10 at 6am CT.
