Why have Watchful and Vigilant Wardstone been disabled in LoL?

Watchful and Vigilant Wardstone Disabled in League of Legends: What You Need to Know

In the world of League of Legends, it’s uncommon for a mechanic to malfunction. However, when it does happen, it can disrupt gameplay and require immediate attention from Riot Games. This is the case with the Watchful and Vigilant Wardstone items.

Currently, there is an issue with these items, specifically designed for support champions, which has led to them being completely disabled in the game. Despite recent buffs in the latest patch, a fix has not yet been implemented. Riot is actively working to resolve the problem and restore these items to the game.

RiotPhroxzon, a Riot Games employee, confirmed the issue in a tweet, mentioning that the disabling of the Wardstone items is due to an exploit that they are working on fixing. They also expressed excitement about the experimentation and balance adjustments planned for future patches.

The Current Problem with Watchful and Vigilant Wardstone

Before the disabling, the Vigilant Wardstone allowed players to carry three Control Wards simultaneously and place an additional ward of each type. However, following Patch 13.11, players can only purchase it after completing their support item quest. To compensate for this change, it now grants higher stat bonuses upon purchase, making it a more powerful late-game item.

Furthermore, Vigilant Wardstone now requires a separate purchase instead of automatically upgrading from Watchful Wardstone. The Watchful Wardstone, like its completed version, can only be purchased after completing the support quest and provides additional stat buffs.

Explanation Behind the Disabling

The disabling of these items is due to a glitch reported by players. When players added Control Wards to their inventories and then purchased either the Watchful Wardstone or completed Vigilant Wardstone, the items would not appear in their inventories, despite the gold being spent. The intended functionality is for the Control Wards to stack within the Wardstone item.

This issue poses a significant disadvantage to support players, especially in late-game situations where vision control is crucial. Unfortunately, there is no clear timeline for when the fixes will be implemented. Until then, these items will remain disabled in the game.
