When Riot developers take on Smash Bros. modding: Here’s the outcome

Riot Games Developers Create League of Legends Mod for Smash Bros

A group of developers at Riot Games have taken it upon themselves to create a mod for Super Smash Bros that features characters from League of Legends. Although Nintendo would never officially collaborate with Riot to bring League characters into Smash, the developers decided to do it themselves.

The mod isn’t widely documented, but there are a few blurry images that have been shared on Reddit. For fans of the crossover between League and Smash, these images are more than enough to get them excited. One of the images features the assassin Katarina, who will be familiar to League fans.

Katarina Mod

According to a Riot developer on Reddit, the mod was created purely for fun. The League characters in the mod aren’t just reskins of existing Smash characters, but have unique abilities and movesets. For example, Garen is similar to Ike but has a spin to win move, similar to Meta Knight’s tornado, and a Demacian Justice charge move similar to Ike’s neutral b.

The mod was likely created using an exploit in Super Smash Bros Brawl that allows users to add their own modifications to the game. This exploit has been used to create other mods as well, such as Project M, a more competitive version of Brawl. There are also balance patches like Brawl Plus and Brawl Minus, which aim to balance all the characters in the game.

Unfortunately, the mod created by Riot developers will likely never be available to the public. So, the dream of seeing Alistar face off against Link will remain just that – a dream.
