What we discovered at the IEM Cologne

Gambit Gaming Shines at Intel Extreme Masters

Last weekend, the Intel Extreme Masters tournament showcased the top teams of the Western League of Legends scene. Despite being considered underdogs, Gambit Gaming came out on top, securing their sixth IEM title.

Teams such as ROCCAT, Dignitas, Counter Logic Gaming, and Gambit Gaming showcased their new lineups at the tournament. ROCCAT and Counter Logic Gaming even had substitutes playing.

Gambit Gaming Dominates

Gambit Gaming proved that they excel in one-off tournaments like IEM, where they can showcase their unique strategies. One particular play in the second game against Counter Logic Gaming demonstrated Gambit’s genius and creativity. By utilizing Elixirs of Ruin, they were able to surprise their opponents and secure a decisive victory.

The new members of Gambit Gaming also performed well at the tournament. Both top laner Lucas “Cabochard” Simon-Meslet and marksman Kristoffer “P1noy” Pedersen had impressive performances, contributing to the team’s success.

Counter Logic Gaming’s Missed Opportunity

Counter Logic Gaming had a chance to win a major tournament, but unfortunately, they were unable to seize the opportunity. Their shotcalling mistake in the ill-fated base race against Gambit Gaming ultimately led to their defeat. However, the team showed potential and their bottom lane proved to be one of the best in America.

ROCCAT’s Disappointing Performance

ROCCAT, the tournament favorites, failed to live up to expectations. Their mid laner Ryu Sang-ook struggled throughout the tournament, lacking synergy with the rest of the team. Despite the disappointing performance, ROCCAT still has potential heading into the 2015 season.

Dignitas Struggles at IEM

IEM was a disaster for Dignitas, who entered the tournament with low expectations. The team struggled in every aspect of the game and has a lot of work to do heading into the season.

Overall, IEM Cologne provided exciting matches and valuable lessons for all the LCS teams attending. The level of play may not have matched previous tournaments, but it showcased the potential for an even more competitive League of Legends season.
