Why Yorick Isn’t Popular in League of Legends
Yorick, the top-lane champion known for split pushing and forcing the enemy to react, is often overlooked in lower ranks. His pick rate is only 2.8% around Platinum elo and his win rate isn’t great either. So, why does no one want to play Yorick? Let’s find out.
What Does Yorick Do?
Yorick’s passive allows him to summon Mist Walkers, his minions, as he kills lane minions. These minions can help him push or attack the enemy. His Q ability is a basic attack that deals additional damage and acts as an auto reset. If there are three or more graves nearby, Yorick can use his Q to summon Mist Walkers from those graves. His E ability allows him to throw a globule of Black Mist, slowing and marking enemies and enhancing movement speed for his minions. Finally, his R ability summons a maiden that can push lanes and provide extra damage. After 10 seconds, Yorick can free the maiden to continue split pushing.
Why is Yorick’s Winrate So Low?
Yorick has an extremely low pick and win rate, which deters players from choosing him. In lower elo games, where teamfights are common, Yorick’s split pushing playstyle doesn’t thrive. He’s meant to push a side lane with his ultimate and minions, but if he’s absent from teamfights, the enemy can easily take objectives and gain an advantage. Additionally, Yorick struggles against strong counter-picks in higher elo games. His kit is designed for split pushing, so if he can’t do that effectively, his impact diminishes.
Conclusion
Yorick is a strong champion with potential, but he’s not utilized properly. In lower ranks, players often lose games because they can’t balance split pushing with teamfighting. In higher ranks, Yorick is easily countered, limiting his effectiveness. As a result, Yorick currently has a low pick rate and win rate. Hopefully, he receives some adjustments in the future to make him more viable and increase his presence in the game.
