What is the reset date for ranked in League of Legends?

League of Legends Update: Ranked Seasons Split into Two Halves for 2023

Ranked queue is one of the most exciting features in League of Legends, allowing players to test their skills against others for top spots on the regional ladders. In a move to align with other games, Riot Games has decided to split the ranked season into two halves for 2023, giving players two separate ranks and rewards.

This change means that instead of the usual annual reset, players will experience two ranked resets at the beginning of each half of the season. To accommodate this split, Riot has made internal changes to the ranked structure, such as reducing the number of promo games from five to three.

Understanding the Rank Reset in League of Legends

The first rank reset will occur at the start of the first half of the season on Jan. 11. The exact time will vary by region. This reset will consider both the player’s rank at the end of the 2022 season and their preseason grind. Players will be matched against opponents of similar skill level during their placement matches to determine their starting rank.

The second rank reset will happen at the beginning of the second half of the season, expected to be introduced in the summer. Unlike the first reset, this one will not be as significant. Riot Auberaun mentioned in the season 2023 overview video that players who don’t play many games in the first half will not be heavily affected by this second reset.

This new ranked structure is likely to be a permanent change in League of Legends, replacing the year-long seasons that players have been used to for the past decade. More information about the second half of the season, including the start date and rewards, will be revealed as the season progresses.
