Vitality Allegedly Appoints Head Coach for 2023 LEC Season: The Mac is Back

Team Vitality Finds New Head Coach for League of Legends

Veteran coach James “Mac” MacCormick is set to become the head coach of Team Vitality in 2024, according to a report from Sheep Esports. Mac has reached a verbal agreement with the organization and will be under contract for the next three seasons.

This three-year deal may seem short, but considering Mac’s successful stint as the coach of Splyce/MAD Lions for the past six years, it is a significant move. During his time with MAD Lions, Mac proved himself to be one of the brightest and most efficient coaches in the European League scene.

Under Mac’s leadership, MAD Lions consistently achieved success, qualifying for Worlds every year. Their peak performance came in 2021 when they won the LEC Spring Split, reached the semifinals of the Mid-Season Invitational, and made it to the quarterfinals of Worlds.

Mac’s arrival comes at a time when Team Vitality is undergoing an offseason rebuild. The team has already secured veteran support Hylissang, but there are still positions to be filled in the starting lineup. Mac is also bringing along assistant coach Patrick “Pad” Suckow-Breum to join Vitality’s staff.

The 2023-24 free agency period will begin on November 21, and teams like Vitality are expected to announce their roster moves on that date. The 2024 LEC Winter Split is set to kick off in late January.
