Viewership of LEC significantly declines in the inaugural week of Winter Split 2023.

The 2023 LEC Winter Split Sees Decreased Viewership in the First Week

The first week of the 2023 LEC Winter Split has come to an end, but unfortunately, the viewership numbers are not as impressive as expected.

According to Esports Charts, the peak viewership for the European competition during the first week was 454,630 viewers. While it could have been worse, it is significantly lower than the peak viewership during last year’s LEC Spring Split, which reached 527,567 viewers.

Decreased Viewership for Excel’s Clash

One of the matches that garnered the highest viewership during the three-day event was the clash between KOI and Excel. While both teams are considered top squads, there was an added storyline with Odoamne facing off against his former team.

In the previous year’s LEC Spring Split, Excel’s clash against G2 accumulated the most viewership during the first week. Matches featuring Caps and his team tend to attract a large audience, and this time was no different. The European El Classico between G2 and Fnatic amassed 434,000 viewers over the weekend, as reported by Esports Charts.

New Schedule Impacting Viewership

The decline in viewership could be attributed to the change in schedule. The LEC is currently running from Saturdays to Mondays, whereas last year it took place from Fridays to Saturdays.

About Odoamne’s Personal Vendetta

It was initially reported that there was a personal vendetta between Odoamne and KOI based on one of his recent interviews. However, this statement has been clarified and removed from the article.

In conclusion, the first week of the 2023 LEC Winter Split saw a decrease in viewership compared to last year’s Spring Split. The change in schedule from Fridays to Saturdays to Saturdays to Mondays may have contributed to the decline. However, matches involving popular teams like G2 and Fnatic still attracted a significant audience. As the tournament progresses, it will be interesting to see if the viewership numbers improve.
