Upcoming update reveals Riot’s plans for the future of LoL’s beloved Arena mode

League of Legends’ Arena Mode to Close with Soul Fighter Event, but Future Plans Discussed

Riot Games’ popular game mode, Arena, which was introduced alongside the Soul Fighter summer event in League of Legends, will be closing its doors soon. However, there is still hope for fans of the mode. Design lead Daniel “Maxw3ll” Emmons assured players on the League subreddit that the team is already discussing future plans for Arena.

Emmons stated, “We definitely haven’t seen the last of Arena; the team is discussing the future plans for the mode and none of the options on the table involve abandoning it.” He mentioned that Brightmoon and Meddler would provide a developer update soon, outlining the next steps for Arena.

Riot Tempers Expectations for Arena’s Lifespan

In recent weeks, Riot has been managing players’ expectations regarding the potential for Arena to become a permanent game mode. Bryan “Axes” Salvatore informed the player base that for Arena to become permanent, it would require a significant and sustained player response. As a result, Riot has been focusing on creating a successful summer event mode and considering future improvements for a separate release.

While it is unlikely that Riot’s plans for Arena will change, there is a possibility that a great player response could alter the direction of the mode.

Arena to Cease After Soul Fighter Event

Currently, Arena is set to end on the final day of the Soul Fighter event, which is Monday, Aug. 28. After that, the mode will go offline indefinitely. Players can anticipate an upcoming developer update from Jeremy “Brightmoon” Lee and Andrei “Meddler” van Roon to learn more about future plans for Arena.
