Upcoming Jhin skin in League of Legends PBE data hints exclusivity to event capsules

New Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin Skin: Limited-Time Exclusive

If you want to add the upcoming Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin skin to your collection, be prepared to spend a significant amount of money for a chance to obtain it. And you only have a limited time to do so.

According to the description of the Cosmic 2023 capsule, which will be released alongside the new Cosmic skins and event in Patch 13.17, opening this item gives players the opportunity to earn random skin shards and other rewards, just like previous events. However, the description also suggests that the only way to obtain the Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin skin is through this capsule.

Previously, in League of Legends, there have been no skins that were locked behind random chances in event loot. Normally, Prestige editions of skins are available for a limited time during specific events, either for purchase with Mythic Essence from the Mythic store or through grinding with an event pass.

Teamfight Tactics, on the other hand, has a similar system called “Treasure Realms,” where players can use Treasure Tokens (earned in-game or purchased with real money) for a gacha-style system that rewards items with predetermined odds. In League of Legends, the Hextech and Masterwork Chest system randomly provides items from a pool of available cosmetics.

Additional information on the PBE (Public Beta Environment) indicates that players can obtain Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin by purchasing and opening a total of 30 Cosmic 2023 capsules, which costs 22,500 Riot Points. It appears that there will not be an event pass for the Cosmic event, as no Prestige skin is being released alongside the new skins. This means that the only way to acquire these event capsules will be through direct purchase.

This makes Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin one of the most expensive skins in the game, despite being a Mythic-tier version of a Legendary skin that has been available for years. However, it is currently unclear whether this method of obtaining the skin will be released on live servers, considering it exists only on the PBE.
