Unpleasant Return: Top Esports ruins GAM Esports’ comeback at League’s World Championship

Welcome back to the League of Legends Worlds 2022!

GAM Esports, the dominant team from Vietnam, made their triumphant return to the Worlds stage after a three-year absence. Due to the challenges posed by COVID, they were unable to participate in the tournament until now. Their first match back was against the LPL’s second seed, Top Esports, and it proved to be a tough wake-up call for GAM.

A Tough Challenge for GAM Esports

Although GAM had previously represented the VCS at Worlds in 2019, they had a lot to prove after their long absence. The team aimed to adopt a slower and more methodical playstyle similar to that of Top Esports. However, they struggled to execute their strategy effectively. Even when they initiated teamfights, TES consistently came out on top.

A Surprising Item Choice from TES

One of the standout factors in the game was TES support player Mark’s unorthodox build. Instead of choosing a standard Mythic item, he opted for Everfrost on Yuumi. This unexpected choice provided TES with additional crowd control, allowing them to control teamfights and shut down GAM’s players effectively.

A Challenging Road Ahead

Although this loss was a setback for GAM, they still have plenty of opportunities to make a comeback in the tournament. They will face tough opponents from the LEC and LCK in their upcoming matches. However, the game showcased GAM’s strong team communication, which will be crucial in their journey to advance further in the tournament.

In the end, it is still early in the group stage, and all teams have begun battling it out for victory at Worlds 2022. The LPL representatives, including TES, have already secured at least one win and are positioned to finish the weekend strong. GAM Esports will face Rogue in their next match, while TES will take on DRX.
