Understanding the Mechanism of Critical Strikes in Teamfight Tactics

How Does Critical Strike Work in Teamfight Tactics?

Teamfight Tactics, released by Riot Games, combined the popular auto chess formula with the rich world of League of Legends. With its massive following, players easily gravitated towards TFT. One of the mechanics in TFT is critical strike, which is essential to understand if you want to climb the ranked ladder. This guide will explain how critical strike works in Teamfight Tactics.

What is Critical Strike?

Critical strike is a damage multiplier that deals 200% damage to the enemy target, allowing you to defeat them quickly. The number of times you can critical strike depends on your percentage, which can be increased with various items.

Every champion has a default critical strike rate of 25%. Even without any items, there is still a slight chance to deal increased damage. Your crit chance cannot exceed 100%, and if you don’t crit in a few auto attacks, your rate automatically increases for future attempts. While you cannot see your crit chance, after 3-4 attacks without a crit, you can expect one.

Critical strike is particularly useful for champions whose primary source of damage is their auto attacks, as well as spells that deal physical damage. However, to counter the high damage of crit strikes, there are items like Bramble Vest and Rosethorn Vest that reduce the damage of critical strikes and increase champion survivability.

To increase critical strike chance, you can equip champions with items like Infinity Edge, Zenith Edge, Jeweled Gauntlet, and Glamorous Gauntlet. The latter two items even allow magic and true damage spells to critically strike, enhancing the damage output of magic champions.

Good Comps for Critical Strikes

Now that you understand how crit works in TFT, here are some comps and champions that can give you a high crit chance:

The assassin build is the best comp for crit, as it provides high damage and allows champions to jump to the enemy backline. Diana, Kayn, Pyke, Qiyana, and Talon are excellent choices for assassins in your team. You can add more champions to complete your team, but these main assassins will give you the crit chance and damage bonus. For example, having 2 assassins grants +15% crit chance and +20% crit damage, while 4 assassins grant +30 crit chance and +40% crit damage. Having 4 or 5 assassins mixed with other sets is ideal for gaining more bonuses.

When it comes to items, it’s recommended to give Diana the Hextech Gunblade, Infinity Edge, and Ionic Spark; Kayn the Bloodthirster, Infinity Edge, and Last Whisper; Qiyana the Hextech Gunblade, Infinity Edge, and Ionic Spark; Pyke the Hextech Gunblade, Infinity Edge, and Ionic Spark; and Talon the Bloodthirster, Infinity Edge, and Last Whisper. These items maximize their damage output and allow them to utilize their abilities effectively for crit strikes.

Knowing how to position your champions is also essential. You can follow the suggested positions in the provided images for the Guild + Assassins comp and the Tempest + Assassins comp. These formations prioritize high damage and some sustain for your team.

Keep in mind that you may not always get the exact champions you want, so feel free to substitute them with other assassins to activate the passive bonus. However, if you have the mentioned champions available, they are among the best choices for this strategy.

By understanding critical strike mechanics and utilizing the right comps and champions, you can increase your chances of success in Teamfight Tactics.
