Underdogs defeat EDG in 2022 LPL Spring Split, reigning world champions expose noticeable flaws

Anyone’s Legends Upsets EDward Gaming in 2022 LPL Spring Split

Anyone’s Legends achieved a stunning victory today by defeating the reigning League of Legends world champions, EDward Gaming (EDG), in a competitive three-game series.

This match had significant implications for the 2022 LPL Spring Split standings for both teams. Prior to this match, EDG was tied for fourth place with an 8-4 record. Despite being the underdogs with a 4-8 record, Anyone’s Legends showed their prowess and continued to challenge the reigning champions.

The series primarily focused on the performances of the bot lanes from both teams. Anyone’s Legends AD carry Betty clashed with EDG AD carry Viper, and the outcome of each game was heavily influenced by their individual carry potential.

Anyone’s Legends dominated the first game, securing an early advantage that led to a convincing victory in just 29 minutes. EDG managed to bounce back in game two, thanks to Viper’s exceptional performance on Zeri. However, in the final game, it was Betty who dominated the early to mid game, contributing to Anyone’s Legends’ win.

This upset win boosts Anyone’s Legends’ record to 5-8 in the 2022 LPL Spring Split. While it is a significant achievement, they still face a challenging path to qualify for the Spring Split playoffs. Their remaining matchups include Victory Five, TOP Esports, and Team WE. Even with eight wins, they may struggle to secure a playoff spot due to the strength of schedule of other teams.

EDG’s loss raises concerns for the world champions. They now hold an 8-5 record and are at risk of losing their position in the top six standings, threatening their chance for a playoff bye. Despite their initial success, their weaknesses have become more apparent when facing stronger LPL teams.

EDG will seek to rebound in their final three games, starting with a match against Bilibili Gaming on March 12.
