Ucal becomes Griffin’s starting mid laner for 2020

Team Griffin Welcomes Mid Laner Ucal for the Upcoming Spring Split

After a disappointing season last year, Son “Ucal” Woo-hyeon will be joining Team Griffin for the upcoming Spring Split in League of Legends. The talented 18-year-old mid laner has finally found a new team.

Ucal may not be a well-known mid laner in Korea, especially among those who don’t watch the LCK regularly. However, he has been recognized as one of the top young mid laners in the region for a while. At just 19 years old, he still has a lot of potential.

Last year, Ucal played alongside star top laner Kim “Kiin” Gi-in on Afreeca Freecs. Unfortunately, they failed to qualify for the playoffs during the 2019 Spring Split. Ucal faced a slump in performance during that split, but he bounced back in the following season. He finished the summer with the third highest number of kills among LCK mid laners and impressive early-game statistics.

Meanwhile, Griffin has faced controversy over the offseason due to reports of unfair player contracts. The organization has apologized and dissolved all player contracts, giving the lineup the option to either sign revised contracts or enter free agency.

As a team that has lost key players such as Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, Son “Lehends” Si-woo, and Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, Griffin aims to fill the void with the addition of Ucal. The LCK kicks off on Wednesday, February 5.
