Top Storylines at Worlds 2020 That We Hoped Would Have a Different Outcome

The League of Legends World Championship 2020, the highest stage of the game, started on Sept. 25 with the play-in stage. The tournament ended on Oct. 31 with DAMWON Gaming winning the championship. The tournament provided great content, quality matches, and interesting storylines. Some players exceeded expectations, while others fell short.

In high-pressure tournaments like Worlds, nerves play a major role. Disappointing performances can lead to heartbreak and early exits for teams. However, they can also serve as motivation for redemption in the next season.

Several storylines from Worlds 2020 didn’t turn out as expected. NA’s veteran players, such as Doublelift and Bjergsen, couldn’t rise up to the challenge. Doublelift struggled with positioning and communication, resulting in a poor performance. Bjergsen had difficulties in laning and rotations, causing him to fall behind.

MAD Lions, the fourth-seeded team from Europe, failed to make it past the play-in stage. Shad0w and Orome’s limited champion pools and inconsistent performance held the team back.

Europe had the opportunity for an all-European final, but both G2 and Fnatic lost in the semifinals. G2 fell to DAMWON Gaming, while Fnatic blew a 2-0 lead against Top Esports. Europe’s dreams were shattered.

In the play-in stage, UOL and MAD Lions faced elimination. UOL advanced but struggled in the main event, losing all their games. Fans wondered if a good day for MAD Lions would have resulted in a better performance.

Suning, the underdog from China, had a strong run but fell short in the finals against DAMWON Gaming. Their Cinderella story ended without a title.

Despite the ups and downs, the World Championship provided top-tier competition and exciting matches.
