Top European Teams Start the EU LCS 2018 Spring Split

The European League Championship Series 2018 Spring Split Begins with a Thrilling Rematch

The highly anticipated European League Championship Series 2018 Spring Split is set to commence with an exciting rematch of the finals from the 2017 Summer Split. G2 Esports and Misfits will take to the Rift in hopes of securing the first victory of the year. G2 aims to prove that their roster changes won’t slow them down, while Misfits sees this as an opportunity to establish themselves as the new kings of Europe.

Head-to-Head History

In the Summer Split last year, G2 and Misfits faced off twice, with each team winning one series. Misfits emerged victorious in the first series with a 2-1 score, while G2 dominated the second series, winning 2-0. They also met in the playoffs, where G2 swept Misfits 3-0 in the finals.

New-Look Rosters

Both teams have undergone significant roster changes since last year. G2 has only one remaining member, Luka “Perkz” Perkovic, from their 2017 team. Meanwhile, Misfits has retained the majority of their roster but made two key additions: Chres “Sencux” Laursen and Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle, replacing Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage and Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun from Splyce.

Coaching Changes

G2 has suffered a major loss with the departure of coach Joey “YoungBuck” Steltenpool, who played a crucial role in their four consecutive championships. Misfits, on the other hand, have kept their coach, Syed Hussain “Daku” Moosvi, known for his innovative strategies that led the team to a close series against SK Telecom T1 in the Worlds quarterfinals.

Although this is the first game for both teams together, G2 is expected to face more difficulties given that they have retained only one player from their championship-winning 2017 side. Misfits, having made only two changes, should have better synergy with their new teammates.

The Top Lane Showdown

The spotlight will be on the top lane, where Martin “Wunder” Hansen of G2 and Barney “Alphari” Morris of Misfits will clash. Wunder has proven himself as a formidable presence in past splits, while Alphari is highly regarded as one of the best European tops. Their performance could greatly impact the outcome of the game.

Predictions

In this best-of-one series, Misfits have the advantage. They have better team synergy, an experienced coach, and equal or superior skill in each lane. G2 will need time to develop as a team, while Misfits already have a strong core.

The match is scheduled for January 19 at 12pm ET.
