Top Esports eliminate LPL top seed V5 in 2022 Spring Split playoffs to secure finals spot

Top Esports Advances to LPL Spring Split Finals with 3-1 Victory Over Victory Five

Top Esports secured their spot in the grand final of the 2022 LPL Spring Split playoffs by defeating Victory Five in a 3-1 series. Their next challenge will be a rematch against Royal Never Give Up.

This semifinal matchup showcased the contrasting dominance levels between the two teams throughout the split. Victory Five displayed consistent performance throughout the regular season, with three of their players earning a spot on the LPL All-Pro first team. On the other hand, Top Esports experienced a remarkable ascent in the standings and emerged as a dark horse contender. Both teams were determined to win this matchup for a chance to face RNG in the finals.

Victory Five demonstrated their dominance in the first game of the series against Top Esports, with their jungle/support duo of Karsa and ppgod taking control of the early game with Viego and Nautilus. By the 26-minute mark, V5 had secured 11 kills and four dragons, while TES managed to score only one kill. This early lead proved insurmountable for TES, resulting in a strong victory for V5 after just 29 minutes.

However, Top Esports gradually gained momentum in the next three games. In the second game, TES took an early kill lead, but V5’s top laner, Rich, exerted constant pressure in the side lanes, preventing TES from securing a significant gold advantage. The balance shifted in TES’s favor when they eliminated three V5 players at the 30-minute mark, allowing them to break into V5’s base and close out the game in 36 minutes.

TES completely dominated the next two games, particularly their jungler, Tian, who remained deaths-free in the final two matches while playing Viego and Volibear. Tian’s early-game pressure overwhelmed V5, leading to TES’s victory in both games within just 25 minutes. With these back-to-back wins, TES secured their spot in the playoffs by eliminating V5 from the competition.

Apex eSports faced a disappointing end to their regular season’s first seed, failing to translate their best-of-three dominance into success in the best-of-five playstyle of the playoffs. After a dominant 14-2 record in the regular season, V5 aimed to secure a spot at the Mid-Season Invitational as the representative of the LPL.

Now, with their Spring Split run over, V5 will shift their focus to the offseason in hopes of building upon their strong regular season and contending for the championship in the Summer Split.

On the other hand, Top Esports continues their impressive performance, building on their strong finish to the 2022 LPL Spring Split. From a 2-4 start, they climbed up to fifth place with an 11-5 record. Throughout the playoffs, TES played a total of 20 games and five best-of-five series. They now have the opportunity to conclude their outstanding run by defeating RNG in the finals.

The 2022 LPL Spring Split finals will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 4:30am CT. The winner between RNG and TES will earn the privilege to represent the LPL at the MSI in Busan, South Korea.
