The Rise of Mid Lane Talent in the LEC

The mid lane talent pool in the LEC has never been stronger. Established veterans and a new wave of talent are going head-to-head, making it the most talented position in the entire league. LEC mid laners have been improving over time, and now we’re witnessing a clash of players bringing out the best in themselves and their position.

The Control Mage Meta in the Spring Split

In the spring split, control mages dominated the mid lane meta. This played to the strengths of European mid laners like Caps, Larssen, and many others who felt right at home. Even players outside of our top five showcased their skills with some impressive moments throughout the split.

Top Five LEC Mid Laners from the Spring Split

Here are the top five LEC mid laners from the 2021 Spring Split regular season:

5) Blue

Blue was a key factor in SK’s success during the split. He accounted for 27.6 percent of SK’s damage, the highest among all LEC mid laners according to gol.gg. Despite some ups and downs for SK, Blue consistently showed his skills and played a crucial role in leading the team to the playoffs.

4) Abbedagge

Although Schalke had a challenging season, Abbedagge stood out as a strong performer. With a KDA of 3.7 and a high kill participation rate, he was a cornerstone for the team throughout the split. While he excelled in the control mage meta, Abbedagge has historically shown his ability to adapt to different playstyles, and if the meta shifts to favor assassins, he could be a formidable force.

3) Humanoid

Despite roster changes for MAD Lions, Humanoid continued to be a reliable player for the team. With a KDA of 3.0 and a DPM of 520.3, he showcased his versatility by playing AD mid lane champions like Lucian and Tristana. Humanoid’s ability to innovate and succeed in different metas made him one of the strongest mid laners this spring.

2) Larssen

Larssen had a standout performance that contributed to Rogue’s success in the Spring Split. With an impressive KDA of 7.8, he outperformed other mid laners in the league. The addition of Odoamne to the team allowed Larssen to flourish and become an MVP-caliber player. He’s undoubtedly one of the best mid laners in the LEC.

1) Caps

Caps once again proved why he’s the king of the mid lane. With a strong KDA of 6.0 and a DPM of 572.4, he was the backbone of G2 Esports’ first-place finish.
