“This is how you introduce a champion”: LoL players praise Freljord event teasing Aurora

Riot Games announced a new Freljord-themed event yesterday, promoting the forthcoming champion, Aurora. Naturally, since the whole schtick revolves around Ornn, fans are all over it, with some calling it their favorite League of Legends event.

“Getting to explore Ornn’s forge is so much fun,” a Reddit user wrote in a May 30 thread. In the event’s Visual Novel, Aurora seeks a meeting with Ornn, the renowned divine blacksmith, to see if he can save her buddy. The companion, of course, is one of Ornn’s numerous siblings, belonging to the same god-like species as Anivia and Volibear. Players can interact with items like they would in any other visual novel, explore his forge, and learn about his lovely demeanor.

Users in the post are also gushing over the Ornn plushie, which, sadly, only exists during the event and is not a genuine item. “Now if Riot makes the Ornn plushie real, they can take my money,” one player remarked. I would also line up for that. Riot, heed our call.

Others praised the event as “amazing,” noting that the Visual Novel appears to be one of Riot’s best moves since the initial Freljord event. It considerably expands Ornn’s lore, which had previously been quite limited.

Though it adds to his mystique as a forge god, it also pushes him to the background. Connecting him with a new champion draws a lot of attention to both Ornn and the Freljord region, and Riot takes great care to develop their narrative while taking a break with Piltover.
