This Heartbreaking Image of Worlds 2022 Wins Esports Photograph of the Year

The Esports Awards 2022: “Esports Photograph of the Year” Captures Emotional Moment at League of Legends World Championship

A stunning photograph from the 2022 League of Legends World Championship has been crowned the “Esports Photograph of the Year” at the Esports Awards 2022.

The award-winning image, taken by freelance photographer Colin Young-Wolff, captures a powerful moment during the grand final of Worlds 2022 on Nov. 5. The photo depicts T1’s Ryu “Keria” Min-seok in tears, comforted by Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun, while Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok looks on in shock.

Colin Young-Wolff is known for his photography work at League and VALORANT events, often collaborating with Riot Games. His skills were clearly evident in capturing this emotional moment at this year’s Worlds.

The photograph was taken immediately after DRX secured victory in game five of the final against T1, clinching their first Summoner’s Cup as a team. This marked the second time T1 has been denied the championship in its history as an organization.

This was Keria’s second international final, having previously lost to the LPL’s RNG at the Mid-Season Invitational in May. At just 20 years old, it’s understandable why the young support player was moved to tears after such a closely contested match.
