The League of Legends’ Most-Played Champion Shares a Common Trait with the Patch 13.13 Most-Banned Pick

Popular Champions in League of Legends Competitive Meta Thanks to Statikk Shiv

In the last month, League of Legends players have seen the rise of two popular champions in the current competitive meta. This rise can be attributed to the same powerful item that both mid lane mages and AD carry picks have been utilizing: Statikk Shiv.

According to U.GG, Kai’Sa has become the most-played champion in Platinum rank and higher, with a pick rate of 31 percent. On the other hand, LeBlanc is the most-banned champion in this skill bracket, being banned in 36.1 percent of her games.

Statikk Shiv’s Impact on Champions

Although Kai’Sa and LeBlanc are played in different roles, they both have one thing in common: Statikk Shiv. This legendary item has become highly utilized in the game due to its unmatched ability to clear waves with a single auto-attack. It is especially recommended for champions with high mobility, as its Electroshock passive charges up with movement and attacks.

Because both LeBlanc and Kai’Sa are champions with great mobility, they can quickly charge up this passive and easily clear out waves. This allows them to quickly push their lane and then roam to other lanes to assist their teammates when needed. Meanwhile, traditional mid laners are often stuck farming under their turret.

Nerfs to Statikk Shiv

In Patch 13.13, Riot Games decided to nerf Statikk Shiv. They removed the extra AP damage ratio when damaging minions and decreased the AP damage ratio against non-minions by 20 percent.

Effectiveness of Statikk Shiv Despite Nerfs

Even with these changes, both LeBlanc and Kai’Sa players continue to build Statikk Shiv. The item remains effective in the mid-game and later stages of a match when wave control becomes crucial.
