The Importance of an In-House Solo Queue for League of Legends Professionals

The Problem with Solo Queue in League of Legends

Every day, the best players of League of Legends log into the game and press “Match me with teammates” for a ranked game. Sometimes, they have a competitive match where everyone tries their best. Other times, they end up frustrated, forced to play out of position and with subpar teammates. This is especially frustrating for professional players, amateurs in the Challenger Series, and high-level players looking for a challenge.

A Solution: In-House Solo Queue

A solution to this problem could be an in-house solo queue, where players can invite friends to play without the fear of bad teammates or trolls. In the past, Cloud9’s Hai “Hai” Lam had the idea for an “In House League of Legends” (IHLoL) system, but its development was halted for unknown reasons.

Riot Games, the developer of League of Legends, has always been hesitant about allowing third-party programs in the game, which may be why the IHLoL system didn’t progress. However, players in games like Counter-Strike and World of Warcraft have found success in using third-party matchmaking websites.

The Benefits of In-House Matchmaking

An in-house matchmaking system would offer a better practice environment for players, giving them a chance to try new champion picks and strategies before using them in scrims. It would also ensure that all players in a match are trying their best to win.

Implementing an in-house system would require time and effort from players, but it could be organized through existing communication platforms like Skype. The main challenge would be finding enough interested players to create a large enough player pool.

While an in-house solo queue hasn’t been explored fully in League of Legends, other esports like CS:GO have seen success with similar systems. It’s time for the biggest esport in the world to consider implementing an in-house solo queue and give professional players the competitive practice environment they desire.
