League of Legends Dominates Esports Viewership in 2019

The popularity of League of Legends esports tournaments continues to soar, solidifying its position as the top game in terms of viewership. According to Esports Charts, the LoL World Championship drew an impressive peak audience of 3.9 million viewers during the semi-finals match between T1 and G2 Esports. This outshined the Fortnite World Cup Finals, which had 2.3 million peak viewers, and the Free Fire World Series in Rio De Janeiro, which attracted two million viewers at its peak.

The LoL World Championship also claimed the top spot in terms of hours watched, with a staggering increase of 66 percent from the previous year. The tournament accumulated a total of 137 million hours watched, while The International, a Dota 2 tournament, came in second with 88 million hours watched. Not far behind was CS:GO’s IEM Katowice Major, which amassed 53 million hours of viewership.

Although League of Legends excelled in viewership, the Free Fire World Series won the category of average viewership. With an average of 1.2 million viewers, it edged out the Fortnite World Cup’s 1.1 million average viewers and League of Legends’ Worlds 2019, which averaged one million viewers.
