Teams at Worlds once again fall short of matching SKT’s historic record from 2016

T1: The Reigning Champions of League of Legends

T1 is a renowned esports organization that has gained immense popularity due to its consistent success. While T1 boasts an exceptional roster of talented players who effortlessly compete at the highest level, it’s their League of Legends team, led by Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, that is the undisputed favorite. T1 holds an impressive series of records in the world of League esports.

EDG Eliminated from League of Legends World Championship

Yesterday, the quarterfinals of the 2022 League of Legends World Championship concluded with a game between EDward Gaming (EDG) and DRX. However, despite being the reigning World champions, EDG faced a tough best-of-five series that resulted in their elimination from Worlds 2022. Once again, the previous year’s champions have failed to defend their title.

This also means that with EDG’s defeat in the quarterfinals, the previous year’s champions have once again failed to defend their title in the following World Championship. The only team to win two consecutive titles to date remains SK telecom T1, in the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

T1: The Team that Defied Odds

The only team so far that has managed to defend their title in the League of Legends World Championship is T1 (formerly known as SKT). T1 won the championship in 2015 and successfully defended it in 2016. But their achievements don’t stop there – they also emerged victorious in Worlds 2013 and MSI in 2016 and 2017. When comparing other teams to T1, they have yet to reach such heights.
